Illegal drugs have led to a dramatic increase in criminal activity. This is true for most surrounding counties as well. Yet, our officers make far below the hourly rates of every other county that surrounds Decatur. We must find a way to properly compensate our officers who place themselves in danger to protect us and our properties.
Decatur County is touted as the "Outdoor Capital of Tennessee," however we have very few public access beaches on the Tennessee River and no public hunting lands. Our camping facility has been neglected and is no longer considered safe due to drug dealers. We must consolidate our efforts to promote use and clean up our public areas, not just for tourists, but for our own citizens.
